Bid Ride ("Bid Ride", "we", "us", or "our") operates a ride-bidding platform connecting riders with drivers in Ethiopia, made available through our mobile apps and this website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated by using the Service, and information from your device.
- Account information: name, phone number, and (for drivers) address, driver's licence details, vehicle information, insurance details, and identity/vehicle documents submitted for verification.
- Profile photo: an optional photo you choose to upload.
- Ride and trip data: pickup and drop-off locations, routes, fares and bids submitted or accepted, trip timestamps, trip status, and cancellations.
- Location data: your device's real-time location while a driver is online or a trip is in progress, used to match riders and drivers, show live trip tracking, and calculate routes and fares.
- Ratings and feedback: ratings and comments riders and drivers submit about each other after a trip.
- Communications: messages you send to our support team, and notifications we send to you.
- Device and usage information: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, and push-notification tokens used to deliver notifications.
2. How We Use Information
- To create and manage your account, and verify driver eligibility to operate on the Service.
- To connect riders with nearby drivers, process ride requests, bids, and trips.
- To calculate fares, display driver and rider information relevant to a trip, and enable live trip tracking.
- To send you OTP verification codes, trip updates, and other service notifications.
- To maintain safety and trust — including ratings, complaint handling, and fraud prevention.
- To respond to support requests and improve the reliability and performance of the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations, including tax, transport, and record-keeping requirements applicable in Ethiopia.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Between riders and drivers: name, profile photo, rating, vehicle details, plate number, and live location are shared between the rider and driver of a given trip so the trip can be completed safely.
- Service providers: infrastructure, SMS/OTP delivery, and push-notification providers that process data on our behalf, solely to operate the Service.
- Legal and safety reasons: when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bid Ride, our users, or the public.
4. Data Retention
We retain account and trip data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward as required for legal, tax, dispute-resolution, and fraud-prevention purposes. When you delete your account (see below), we remove or anonymize your personal profile information; trip records that must be retained for the reasons above are kept in a form no longer directly identifiable to you where possible.
5. Your Choices & Rights
- You can review and update your profile information from within the app.
- You can control location and notification permissions from your device settings — note that some features (such as requesting or accepting rides) require location access to function.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. See Delete Your Account.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
9. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, contact us at support@example.com or +1 (555) 000-0000.
